Morley overcome Gomersal to extend lead

Morley opening batsman James McNichol hit a maiden century as he struck 14 fours on his way to 102.

The 20-year-old shared a second-wicket stand of 154 with overseas player Kashif Naveed, which struck 99 before both men became victims of veteran left-arm spinner Chris Rhodes (4-51).

Morley’s total of 226-6 ensured they picked up maximum batting points and they were soon on track to victory as Gomersal plunged to 15-5 in reply.

Gomersal were all out for 72 as Nathan Bromby took 4-25 and Matthew Dowse (4-30) as the Scatcherd Lane men close in on promotion.

Morley picked up a maximum 20 points and extended their lead over Scholes to 20 points despite the New Popplewell Lane side bowling Keighley out for just 76.

Hartshead Moor were bowled out for 135 as Yeadon opening bowler Iftikhar Ahmed claimed 5-34 from his 15 overs.

Hartshead were indebted to overseas player Fahad Ul-haq, who made 93 not out but it was not enough to prevent Yeadon racing to 136-1 with Jake Wray (89no) and Ollie Stephenson (37no) sharing an unbroken second-wicket stand of 135.
