Spenborough AC sent men’s and women’s teams to the Yorkshire road relay races, which took place at the new Brownlee Centre in Leeds last Saturday.
A traffic free one mile circuit provides a great venue for cycling and running events.
The men’s race saw 37 teams set off on the first of four three mile legs and among them was Simon Bolland, running a strong race to place Spen 11th.
Joe Sagar then progressed through the runners in front of him covering the three miles in 15 minutes 15 seconds which was the fastest on the second leg and sixth fastest of all the runners to bring Spen into sixth place.
Henry Carter and Tom Dart ran fine races to finish the team seventh, with the race won by Rotherham Athletics Club.
In the women’s race Natasha Geere got Spen off to a good start finishing 14th on the first of four two mile legs.
Lynda Robertson, Jacqui Carter and Amanda Pearson ran well to bring the team in 19th of the 23 competing teams.
International runner Charlene Thomas ran the last leg for Wakefield AC to win the race.
