Dewsbury Rams will be hoping lightning strikes twice when they lock horns with Halifax in the Kingstone Press Championship on Sunday (3pm).

The Rams stunned Karl Harrison’s men to dump them out of the Northern Rail Cup with a superb 20-18 victory last month and will look for a repeat in what is a crucial game for both sides.

Halifax were second in the Championship before last night’s showdown between third placed Batley and leaders Sheffield, while Dewsbury are sixth and looking to cement their place in the play-offs.

Coach Glenn Morrison admits his side are confident they can repeat the shock win, saying: “We beat them here in a friendly and in the cup but they beat us quite easily at their place and will want to get the points on our ground.

“We are confident going into games and are determined that we can win and get some points in the play-off race.”

Dewsbury have been boosted as Rob Spicer has trained after a long injury lay-off and could come into contention.

Bradford Bulls star Elliott Whitehead has also been training with the Rams but it is unclear whether he will feature on Sunday as rumours circulate regarding a proposed big money move away from Odsal.

Morrison is aware of the threat Halifax captain Scott Murrell poses for the visitors, having missed the cup defeat.

Morrison added: “It was no surprise their form dropped when Scott was out. He is the main man and we have to do our best to shut him down.”

Morrison was proud of his side’s effort in last Friday’s 26-16 defeat at Sheffield Eagles in the Northern Rail quarter-finals.

The Rams had led 16-0 in the first half, before champions Sheffield stormed back to seal a place in the semi-finals.
