Head coach Glenn Morrison has paid tribute to long-serving winger Austin Buchanan, who will leave Dewsbury Rams after almost a decade at the club.
Buchanan made 131 appearances for the Rams, scoring 62 tries, having joined in 2007 but has taken up an offer to join League One outfit York City Knights.
Morrison admits Buchanan will always remain welcome back at the Rams and has not ruled out a return in some capacity once he retires.
Morrison said: “Austin has been massive at the club during my time here and an extremely loyal servant for the last nine and a half years.
“He enjoyed a richly-deserved testimonial this season and we wish him the best of luck in his next chapter.
“We offered Austin a position on our coaching staff for next season, but he feels he has another season as a player in him, and so he’s made the switch to York.
“He’ll always be welcome back at the club and hopefully when he hangs the boots up we can look to bring him back in some capacity.”
Buchanan admitted he leaves the club he loves with a heavy heart, adding: “It’s been great to be here for nine and a half years and my experiences at the club will stick with me until the day I die. I’ll forever be a supporter of the club.
“Walking out for my testimonial match was an amazing feeling and it will always stick with me and right through to the end of this season, when I was a part of the Reserves side that won the Grand Final.”
Anthony Thackeray also thanked the loyal Rams fans for making him welcome during his time as he departs to join Featherstone Rovers.
The Rams have confirmed full-back Ryan Fieldhouse has joined Barrow Raiders, winger Greg Scott has signed for Swinton Lions and Makali Aizue moves to Doncaster.
