Dewsbury Rams have confirmed the signings of four new players for the 2016 season with three departing for pastures new.
Just three days after bowing out of the Kingstone Press Championship Shield, the Rams have stated their intentions of building for next season.
Experienced prop Tony Tonks is joined by fellow forwards Sam Bates and Matt Groat, along with half-back Dominic Speakman.
Scrum-half Anthony Thackeray announced he was leaving the Rams after two magnificent seasons following last Sunday’s 34-18 semi-final defeat to London Broncos.
Thackeray made 60 appearances for the Rams, scoring 41 tries.
Kieran Hyde is also leaving Dewsbury, having played 59 games and scored 13 tries in three years, while prop forward Makali Aizue is set to join Doncaster.
Tonks has a wealth of Championship experience, with Halifax, Featherstone and Sheffield.
He played 24 games for the Eagles this season and has made a total of 166 career appearances and is now relishing the prospect of joining the Rams.
Speakman was a product of the St Helens Academy before having spells with Rochdale, Barrow and North Wales, followed by a stint playing at a high level in Australia.
Groat played for Australia Schoolboys and was a member of the New South Wales Under-19s State of Origin team. He also played 13 games with Wests Tigers before injury halted his NRL career.
The 23-year-old prop featured 12 times for Doncaster this season, scoring four tries, including one in the 33-20 win over Dewsbury last month.
Bates is a highly rated 19-year-old forward who arrives at Tetley’s Stadium from Bradford Bulls.
