Johnson grabs brace on Trojans debut to help inspire hard-fought win at Hill

Thornhill Trojans overcame a battling performance from Dudley Hill to pull clear in the closing stages of this game the record a comfortable 52-22 try victory.

For long period the Bradford team belied their league position and gave the Trojans much to think about but victory maintains the Trojans lead at the top of National Conference Division One.

The Trojans gave debuts to youngster Declan Kaye on the wing and the more experienced former Shaw Cross player-coach Zach Johnson.

The transfer of Zach Johnson was completed midweek allowing him to mark his debut with two tries in a man-of-the-match display.

There was also an impressive performance from Will Gledhill as he registered a hat-trick of tries, Liam Morley and Danny Ratcliffe were at the hub of Thornhill’s best moves, while stand in kicker Casey Johnson landed eight goals from nine attempts.

Kaye looked to have made the perfect debut by scoring with his first touch of the ball but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Dudley Hill scored first try through a scrappy Elliot Cousins effort but Thornhill regained their composure and Morley sent out a pass for Will Gledhill to charge over for a try.

Gledhill broke away to set up another attack, Luke Haigh took play forward and then Liam Morley sent Danny Ratcliffe away to score, with Casey Johnson converting.

A kick to the corner from Dudley Hill then over stretched Thornhill and Martin Southwell scored an unconverted try.

A run from Gledhill set up the next Thornhill attack. , with Zach Johnson making a powerful run before slipping the ball out for Martyn Holland to score. Casey Johnson converted.

Neil Wall and Lewis Evans hit back with Dudley Hill tries, which were converted by Simon Sewell and Thornhill had plenty to think about trailing 20-16.

Zach Johnson went on another rampaging run, bounced off a tackler and powered over for a try by the posts. Casey Johnson converted.

Dudley Hill then had Neil Wall sin binned for holding down but Holland joined him when he spoke out of turn to the referee and Sewell levelled matters with the penalty goal

Thornhill took control in the final quarter as Kaye set up a move which ended with Will Geldhill diving over the line and Casey Johnson kicked the goal.

Tom Gledhill had a try waved away by the referee for a forward pass and as Thornhill continued to apply pressure, Ryan Dickinson was sin-binned for a high tackle on Danny Ratcliffe.

Play went on and Zach Johnson charged onto a pass to go over for a try. Casey Johnson converted.

Neil Wall was then sent to the sin bin for the second time for speaking out of turn to the referee.

A pass from Liam Morley sent Will Geldhill over for his third try of the game. Casey Johnson converted.

Another try quickly followed from George Woodcock. Casey Johnson converted as Thornhill cemented victory in the closing stages.

In the final moment of the game Will Gledhill broke clear and sent the supporting Martyn Holland over for the final try of the game. Casey Johnson converted.
