Huddersfield coach Rock Stone has promised to field a strong side against the Rams, which should provide a stern test for Neil Kelly’s men.

Stone is set to field new signings Adam Watene and Colton Roche, although he admits some of the players currently on World Cup duty may be given additional rest time.

Stone told the Huddersfield Giants website: “First and foremost I hope that Leroy gets a great turnout for the first hit out of the year against Dewsbury as he has given his all for Huddersfield over the years and this will be the start of what we all hope will be a great year for him and his family.

“I plan to give all the senior first team boys a run out on our own ground against Dewsbury fitness permitting so It’ll be the first chance for the fans to see Adam Walne and Colton Roche in Giants shirts.”

The game also gives 19-year-old forward Billy Hayes a chance to come up against his former club after he joined the Rams on a permanent deal from Huddersfield last week.

Dewsbury kick off their pre-season programme with the traditional Boxng Day challenge match at home to neighbours Batley Bulldogs, while they will also face Bradford Bulls on Sunday January 21 at Tetley’s Stadium.

Bradford were, of course, relegated to League One last season but have put together a strong squad as they look to bounce back at the first attempt and they will again provide a decent challenge for the Rams.

The Rams will launch their new home shirt in The Royal Suite at Tetley’s Stadium on Wednesday December 20, from 7.30pm.

The evening will provide opportunity for fans to meet members of the squad after the finish training.
