Dewsbury Moor suffer defeat as midweek cup efforts take their toll in heat

The Cumbrian outfit completed a league double over Moor having won 36-12 at home earlier in the season.

Moor included Danny Maun in their side but playing two games in four days in sweltering conditions took its toll.

Moor went into half-time level at 6-6 but having James Delaney sin-binned for dissent didn’t help their cause.

Tries from Jordan Foster and George Croisdale, plus an Aiden Ineson goal, were not enough to prevent defeat.

Askam posted tries by Mark Tyson, Sam Dowsett and Stuart High, with Kristian Tyson landing four goals and a drop goal.

Moor remain second in the table, four points behind Stanningley, who suffered a 42-22 defeat against fellow promotion contenders Crosfields.

The Warrington side are in third place, two points behind Moor with a game in hand and the Maroons host Hunslet Warriors on Saturday.

Dewsbury Moor will face Thornhill Trojans in the Jim Brown Heavy Woollen Cup Final after they overcame Batley Boys in last Wednesday’s semi-final.

The Boys had earned a surprise victory over Shaw Cross Sharks in the previous round but it was Moor who proved too strong after a closely contested first half as they ran out 30-10 winners.

Both Heavy Woollen finals will be contested between Thornhill and Dewsbury Moor as the clubs A teams clash in the John Kane Cup final.

Both matches will be held on Thursday August 23 at Tetley’s Stadium.

Batley Boys remain top of the Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division with seven wins from seven matches.

They return to action on Saturday with a trip to Lindley Swifts.

Birstall Victoria produced a determined effort but were unable to prevent a 32-26 defeat away to Kippax Welfare last Friday.

The Vic have won one and lost five of their opening six matches.
