Moorlands look to pile on pressure – Mills target important points

Moorlands sat out last week’s round of matches and the leading duo of Carlton and Liversedge took full advantage by taking maximum points.

They are both seven points clear of Moorlands but with Carlton having their free date tomorrow, Moorlands have the chance to put the pressure back on.

Moorlands have won six, tied one and lost one of their eight matches and collected an impressive seven-wicket win over Carlton the previous week when Michael Rounding hit 124 not out from 108 balls.

Hopton Mills will be looking to get their Division Two promotion push back on track, following defeat to rivals Scholes last week, when they travel to Batley A.

Mills surrendered pole position to Scholes last week and, such is the closeness of the section this time, Hopton actually slipped to sixth place.

Just six points separate the top six sides as the season approaches halfway, so it promises to be an exciting tussle for the top two promotion places.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers are halfway up the Premier Division after nine matches and they welcome New Farnley to Wellhouse Lane tomorrow.

Parish suffered an 85-run defeat at Methley last week as the home side took over from Wrenthorpe at the top of the table and they face another stern test against Farnley.

Hanging Heaton have hit form in the last two weeks and seek a fourth straight victory when they travel to Gomersal (1.30pm) in Division One of the Bradford League.

The match will be a rehearsal for the Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final between the sides on July 3.

Mark Lawson hit a superb 140 and with Joe Fraser (87) making his highest score for Heaton, the Bennett Lane men reached 291-4 against Undercliffe and went on to complete a 27-run success.

Lawson began his career as a junior at Gomersal and he will be hoping to make a big impact. That win saw Heaton move fourth, 16 points behind leaders Woodlands, while Gomersal slipped to the foot of the table.
