Moorlands and Parish closing on promotion

The Mirfield side are keen to make a quick return to the top flight and are in good form following an 88-run win away to Lascelles Hall last Saturday.

Naveed Zamurad led the way with 62, while support came from Andrew Fortis (42) and David Winn (25) as Moorlands were bowled out for 196 off the final ball of their 50 overs.

Sheheryar Hassan (5-45) was pick of the Lascelles Hall bowlers.

Top order batsmen Fiaz Ahmed (25), Adam Daffern (24) and Tom Wightman (20) all made useful starts but were unable to build and they proved the only home players to reach double figures.

Zamurad (3-41) and Darrell Sykes (2-23) chipped away at the top order before Jake Dubbeldam produced a devastating spell to wrap up the win.

Dubbeldam claimed 5-6 from 5.4 overs as Lascelles Hall were bowled out for 108 in 35.4 overs.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers cruised to a nine-wicket win over Hall Bower and have moved eight points clear at the top of the Conference with five matches remaining.

Parish require just a further six points to guarantee promotion in their first season in the Huddersfield League as they are 25 points clear of third placed Upperthong.

Nazar Hussain produced a superb display as he claimed 8-39 from 12.4 overs and Hall Bower were dismissed for just 96 in 24.4 overs.

Parish lost Luke Harrington early but David Blakeley (37no) and Terence James (31no) steered them home in just 15.1 overs with an unbroken second wicket stand.

Mirfield have picked up form of late and moved fourth-bottom thanks to a fifth win of the season over lowly Almondbury.

Joshua Ramsay (47) got the Mirfield innings off to a fine start, while Adam Goldthorpe led the way with 52 and Alex Pearson struck 48 before Andrew Young boosted the total late on with an unbeaten 28 as the visitors closed on 268-7, with Muhammad Mobeen toiling hard to return figures of 3-71.

Muhammad Mobeen (58) and Tahir Hamed (58) produced a decent second wicket stand in Almondbury’s reply.

The home side were always up with the required run rate but once the key pair fell, the innings faded away and Almondbury were dismissed for 207 in 39 overs as Asad Kazmi claimed 4-49, while Pearson, Ramsay and Mark Eastwood picked up two wickets apiece.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers B earned the derby bragging rights with an eight-wicket win over Mirfield in Conference Two.

Mirfield were bowled out for 150 before Euan Hardcastle (52) and R Poutney (54no) steered Parish home.
