Moor U13s turn in fine display to defeat Catalans

DEWSBURY Moor Under-13s earned a 28-0 win over French side Catalans at Heckmondwike Road.

Craig O’Donnell scored the first try after good work by Brad Samme and Billy Yarrow. Tyler Mellor converted. Archie Bruce followed up with a try after good work by Brad Saville, Tom Chapman, Joss Oliver and Ellis Mountain.

Catalans tried to open up play but were halted by Joss White, Tom Firth and Callum Tolson. Yarrow set Sam Canavan on a run for a try and Mellor’s goal made it 18-0.

Luke Norris and Jack Holt made good breaks before Mellor scored from long range. Moor brought off several players but before full-time Joe Haywood beat off several tacklers to score.

The Under-12s gave Yorkshire League leaders Featherstone Lions a fright before the visitors won 10-4.

Moor trailed 4-0 at half-time after Reece Lovell, Junaid Hussain, Humaif Lunat, Connor Barraclough, Billy Donaghue, Byron Wood and Jacob Shires put in good stints.

Good work by Jake Butterfield, Nial Riley, Jack Conroy and William Bairstow was followed by a Brad Lay kick which Mark Firth dived on to score. Lay, Butterfield and Billy Windle also went close while late on the Lions broke for a crucial 60-metre try.

Moor’s Under-15s allowed Castleford Panthers to lead 18-0 before improving after the break as scoring was limited to a converted try apiece.

Moor scored the best try of the game when Tom Kay ran down the left and send Elliott Jewitt over. Kieran Hepworth scored the goal.

Hepworth and prop Joseph Pashley had good games along with Max Vernon and stand-off Dean Carr.

Moor Under-17s were beaten at East Leeds but could still make the Yorkshire Youth League top-four play-offs if they beat Holderness Vikings at Heckmondwike Road this Sunday
