Moor suffer late defeat

Clayton 24

DEWSBURY Moor included new signings Phil Shotton and Danny Wardman in their side to face Clayton but they were unable to prevent a narrow defeat in the Pennine League Championship.

Ryan Johnson denied Clayton’s Gareth Judson with a fine tackle before Moor produced a good move involving Adie Moore, Scott Dyson, Peter Robinson and Phil Simpson which ended with Shotton sending Jack Ryding over in the corner for a try.

Wardman, Andy Robinson and Brad Fraser made good yards before Ryding chipped over and the supporting Shotton nipped in to score on his debut. Andy Robinson converted.

Clayton responded quickly with a try of their own from Scott McGee.

However, just before half-time Andy Robinson kicked a penalty after further good work involving a smart combination of passes via Simpson, Lee Ashton and Wayne Wilson.

McGee put Edward Harvey over for an early second half try for Clayton which McGee converted.

Clayton scored the equalising try through Gareth Judson but McGee’s conversion edged Clayton back in front.

Moor turned down a penalty goal attempt which would have levelled matters and Clayton held out before Harvey scored his second try of the match to seal their victory.

Dewsbury Moor would like to thank Dewsbury Rams for the loan of their kit for this match.
