Moor produce brave effort in cracking Sharlston clash

The scrambling Dewsbury Moor defence attempt to get to grips with a Sharlston attacker during Saturdays cracking National Cup tie at Heckmondwike Road.

Both sides included a sprinkling of ex-professionals and provided first class entertainment for the large, appreciative crowd.

It was the youthful Moor side who threatened in the early stages and strong running by Danny Wardman, Tobias Richardson, Jamie Samme and Cameron Bruce kept Sharlston penned back.

Bartley O’Brian went on a testing run and Moor kept up the pressure through Jordan Foster and Andrew Robinson before George Croisdale was tackled close to the line.

Moor winger Lewis Holliday jumped for a high ball near the line but lost control as Sharlston were let off and the cracking first half ended scoreless.

Sharlston began to click at the start of the second half with former professional Tom Wandless helping Rovers race into a 14-0 lead.

Moor were not disheartened and showed spirit with Peter Robinson, Adie Moor and James Eatherley leading from the front.

Good runs by Ash Boddy, and Alex Jeffs led to scrum-half Bradley Foster pulling a try back, with Eatherley’s conversion giving Moor hope

As pressure mounted there were a couple of skirmishes but referee Mr Mellor kept things in check.

Moor battled to the end but were unable to reduce the deficit further as they went down against a side who have won all the major honours in the amateur game.
