Moor keen to home in on vital league win – Trojans look to make up ground

It is an important game, the sides are third and second in the table and Moor are four points behind their visitors but have a couple of games in hand.

They showed their mettle when they won at Batley Boys in the National Cup last Saturday which has given them a second round draw at another local team in Birstall Victoria a week on Saturday (January 29).

However, they will be keen to make their mark in a highly-competitive division and will feel justified at the decision to move leagues during the close season.

Things could open up as Ossett Trinity, who are fourth, visit leaders New Earswick.

Thornhill Trojans, who are fourth in Division Three but with as many as four games in hand on team above, try to make up ground with the visit to Dudley Hill A.

There is no lack of interest in Yorkshire League Division Three as White Rose, who are seeking a third successive win in a run dating back to November 13, take on leaders Castleford Panthers A at Bywell Fields.

A measure of the challenge the Rose face is that the visitors have won all their eight league games so far.

Shaw Cross A are in second place but have played three games more than Castleford Panthers A.

They will be hoping Rose can do them a favour as they bid to go back to the top of the table with victory in a testing game at Ryhill, who have won five games out of five.

n Shaw Cross Sharks will be looking to break into the top six in National Conference League Division Two tomorrow when they travel to face lowly Ovenden.

The Sharks found some good form last week in their 52-10 National Cup first round win over Cadishead Rhinos of the North West Counties League.

Leigh Rientoul hit the ground running on his Sharks debut with a hat-trick of tries and he will hope to profit again this weekend against hosts Ovenden who are second-bottom in Division Two having won two and draw two of their 13 league games.

The Sharks will hope to complete a league double, after their 22-6 win at Leeds Road last October, and nudge into the top six.

They are actually seeking a second successive win as their last Conference game brought a win over Heworth on November 20.
