Moor eye title bid – Heaton tackle rivals

DEWSBURY Moor seek to continue their challenge for the top of the Pennine League Championship Division when they meet Halifax side King Cross Park at Heckmondwike Road tomorrow (2pm).

Moor are second, two points adrift of leaders Halifax Irish but have two games in hand and things promise to be tight in the bid for the title with perhaps five clubs involved and a good winning run could prove decisive.

The Dewsbury side will be keen to eliminate the memories of last Saturday’s 5-2 defeat by Shaw Cross in the Jim Brown Heavy Woollen Cup in what seemed to be an old-fashioned tie.

Yorkshire Cup finalists Thornhill Trojans are firmly back on the map after their outstanding golden point win at powerful Queens in the county semi-final. They meet Hunslet Old Boys at Wakefield’s Belle Vue in the final on the lunchtime of December 27.

Tomorrow Thornhill revert to Pennine Division Two as they meet Kippax at Overthorpe Park. The Trojans are third, but are scoring for fun and still unbeaten.

They are two points behind second-placed Selby with four games in hand and four behind leaders Brighouse, who also have a 100 per cent record, with two games in hand. The clashes between the top two seem to be the only point of interest in this division and it is hard to see Thornhill being stopped.

Division Six leaders Hanging Heaton can boost their title hopes as they host Guiseley Rangers who stand two points behind in second.

Thornhill A, marching away with Division Seven, visit Emley Moor A, while second-placed Dewsbury Moor A visit Greetland A. Moor are two points behind the Trojans but have played a game more.
