Mirfield Parish and Hopton Mills bow out of quarter-finals

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers and Hopton Mills bowed out of the CYL’s Jack Hampshire Cup last Sunday, losing their quarter-final ties.

Parish found the going tough away to Hunslet Nelson as they were dismissed for just 54 and slipped to a 162-run defeat to their Premier Division rivals.

Will Stiff (59), Aqash Aurangzeb (33no), Matt Smith (33) and Dan McTernan (33) were among the runs as Nelson posted 216-7, with Nazar Hussain (3-23) and Daniel Padgett 3-42 on form with the ball.

However, the Parish reply crumbled in the face of impressive bowling from Jack Hebden (3-22) and overseas all-rounder Warren Ekstraal (3-1) as Nelson booked a semi-final spot.

Hopton were unable to spring a surprise as they suffered a 124-run defeat at Wrenthorpe.

Darryl Hendricks led the way with 94, while Jordan Sleightholme (54), Sam Wigglesworth (50no) and James Smith (36) supported as Wrenthorpe reached 299-7.

Brad Drake top scored with 48 in reply but Hopton were dismissed for 175 as Mark Bentley claimed 4-49 and Mills are now left to concentrate on winning promotion from the Championship.

Methley eased into the semi-finals with a 176-run victory over rivals Townville as they took a huge step towards clinching back to back league and cup doubles.

Marcus Walmsley hit 108, Richard Foster 91 and Eddie Walmsley 54 not out as Methley reached 300-3 from their 40 overs.

Townville were dismissed for 124 in reply as Sohail Raz (3-18) and Benjamin Waite (3-15) eased Methley to victory.

Wakefield Thornes make up the semi-finalists after David Toft (116) and Faisal Irfan (83) helped them reach an impressive 259-4 against Carlton, who could muster only 71 all out in reply as Toft backed up his century with 3-16, while Mahmood Rasool claimed 3-15.

Ossett second team remain in the hunt for a treble trophy haul.

The Queens Terrace side lie second in the CYL Second Teams Premiership and are through to the Wheatley and Crowther Cup semi-finals.

Ossett dismissed Azaad for 140 in last Sunday’s Wheatley Cup quarter-final before securing a four-wicket win, while they meet Pudsey Congs in the Crowther Cup semis on July 26.

Wakefield Thornes lead the second teams Premiership by two points from Ossett but they crashed out of the Wheatley Cup when they were bowled out for 69 by Hopton Mills, who completed a six-wicket win.

Birstall booked their semi-final spot by restricting Townville to 144-9 and completing a seven wicket win, while Carlton earned a 22-run success over East Leeds).

Wheatley Cup semi-finals: Carlton v Hopton Mills, Ossett v Birstall.
