Mills recover to earn victory – Liversedge A sink Nelson

HOPTON Mills A lead Central Yorkshire League Division Four after a thrilling one-wicket home win over Adwalton A.

Adwalton recovered from being 8-2 after Mark Hall (2-48) struck to set a challenging 221-6. Thomas Marshall made 50 while Wasim Iqbal claimed 2-35.

In reply Mills were left reeling at 56-5 before Jotham Barnett (39) and Ijaz Ashraf shared a partnership of 51.

Ashraf and Edward Townend (8) added 26 while soon after a defiant 38 by Ashraf ended to leave Mills in trouble at 163-8 before Muhammad Ikram took charge.

Ikram and Wasim Iqbal (12) added 34 for the ninth wicket while Ikram dominated the last-wicket partnership with Hall (0no) to finish unbeaten on 63 and steer Mills to 223-9.

Mills are four points clear of second-placed Caribbean A and 12 clear of Adwalton A in fourth.

East Ardsley A stretched their lead in Division Three after beating visitors Scholes A by 38 runs.

Julian Smith proved the star taking five wickets after earlier helping Ardsley recover from 55-5 to post 191-7.

Allan Pyle took 3-18 in nine overs with three maidens while Ross Irving (1-29) and Ben Cross (1-50) also struck to leave the leaders struggling.

Opener Smith anchored the innings and sparked a sixth-wicket recovery in a stand of 103 with Tom Daniels before he was bowled by Adam Minnett (1-44) for 49 runs. Smith was out for 90.

Alastair Butters and Cross put Scholes on course with a second wicket stand of 89.

Scholes had reached 102-1 before Ashley Battye dismissed Cross for 51. Battye claimed three more quick wickets, including Butters (54) to end with 4-22 in nine overs and with Smith taking five of the last six wickets Scholes collapsed to 153 all out in 44 overs.

Smith ended with 5-32 in 12 overs as Ardsley stretched their lead to five points after Carlton A won by 108 runs at Wakefield St Michaels A.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers A moved above Carlton A into second place on net runs per wicket after taking six points in a 107-run win at New Farnley A.

Parish A reached 229 all out before dismissing their hosts for 122.

Hunslet Nelson A lost by six wickets at Liversedge A.

Jeff Nicholson top scored with 40 as Nelson were 118 all out. James Austin took 4-14 and Elliott Hallas 2-14 while Adam Clarke (1-39), Connor Rowlands (1-14) and Kevin Wilbraham (1-13) also claimed wickets.

Wilbraham guided the hosts home with 75 from 71 balls, with 13 fours and two sixes. He shared a 96-run third-wicket stand with Russ Clarke (31) as Liversedge A reached 120-4 in 28 overs.

Liversedge A move out of the bottom two.

Moorlands A lost by four wickets at Westwood Park. Oliver Rounding (41), Martin Baldwin (31), Steve Auty (27), Arshad Ali (34) and Dan Pauley (28) saw Moorlands A reach 207-8.

Adam Roberts and Pauley (2-53) then had the home side in trouble at 33-3 before Paul Barker (27) and Jawad Waheed steadied matters. Waheed scored 80 and aided by Zahir Shah (34no) Westwood reached 210-6 in 47 overs. Roberts ended with 3-49 and Shoaib Ali 1-11.
