Liversedge work hard to earn point

LIVERSEDGE produced another fine away display to restrict Northern Counties East League Premier Division high-fliers Barton Town to a point last Saturday.

With a little more luck, Liversedge could have snatched victory as they missed two good chances late on but their impressive form away from Clayborn continues.

Sedge had lost 2-1 when the sides met last month — one of four defeats Eric Gilchrist’s men have suffered on home turf — but on their travels it is a different story and this was their 14th point from seven away games.

Things did not start well for Liversedge as they were caught cold and inside two minutes, Danny Cooper bundled over a forward in the area.

Ashley Lattimore stepped up but goalkeeper Paul Hargreen flung himself right to make a terrific save.

Hargreen was again on hand to tip Steve Norton’s effort over the crossbar after Matthew Bugg had gone close at the other end for Sedge.

Lattimore made amends for his penalty miss when he fired home from outside the area to put Barton ahead after 13 minutes.

Tate Williams was sent one-on-one with Dave Bramley but the Barton goalkeeper saved at his feet before Liversedge opened up the hosts again when Cooper found Williams, who crossed for Bugg to produce a neat finish for his seventh goal in five starts.

Liversedge had the better of the second half as Williams gave Gibril Bojang a chance but his curling shot was tipped over the top by Bramley.

Barton have lost only once this season but Liversedge came close to snatching all three points when Williams and Bugg both went close in the final 10 minutes but saw chances fly past the wrong side of the posts as they were left to settle for another good away point.

The draw leaves Sedge 12th in the table but if they can produce the same kind of form at home as they have so far on the road, they can surely start to make inroads on the sides above them.

Liversedge: Hargreen, Hewitt, Rothell, Cooper, Leach, Riordan, Williams, Peltier, Bugg, Bojang, Hirst.
