Liversedge slip to fourth straight defeat

Liversedge slipped to a fourth straight defeat in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division on Wednesday, going down 2-1 at Pontefract Collieries.

Early season promise shown by the Clayborners has been undone as Wednesday’s defeat came on the backl of a 5-1 loss at Armthorpe Welfare last Saturday.

Goals from Aaron Moxam (14) and Mark Whitehouse (28) put Pontefract 2-0 up at half-time and although Brandon Kane pulled one back just after the break, it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat.

Armthorpe had not won at home before last Saturday but led 2-0 at half-time after goals from Ben Muirhead and Kieran Benson, with Joe Lumsden adding a third after an hour.

Liversedge were given hope when James French netted after 72 minutes but Armthorpe sealed victory through Stuart Preston and James Handley.

Liversedge Under-19s kicked of their Northern Youth Alliance League campaign with a 3-0 win at Silsden last Thursday thanks to goals from Corban Pankhurst, Rob Thomas and Cody Cromack.

Cromack put Liversedge ahead in Monday’s FA Youth Cup tie away to AFC Emley.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Callum Barron was sent off and although Emley equalised late on, Vaughan Redford’s 90th minute penalty saw Liversedge through.
