Liversedge pay heavy penalty for call-offs

Last week’s scheduled clash against Clipstone was the latest at Clayborn to fall victim to waterlogging and it is currently 75 days since Jonathan Rimmington’s men last ran out on home midden.

Liversedge secretary Bryan Oakes spoke to Radio Yorkshire about the mounting crisis the club are facing, on and off the field.

Mr Oakes said: “It is 12 weeks since our last home game and this affects everything at the club.

“We are losing out on gate money but still have bills to pay.

“We are a small club but with no gate money or food and bar takings from home games it affects everybody.”

Liversedge have applied for emergency funds from the FA but even if they are successful, the club would still face a shortfall for essential work to be carried out on drainage.

Liversedge are bottom of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division and with three sides likely to be relegated in May, Rimington’s men are four points adrift of safety but with games in hand on the sides immediately above them.

Mr Oakes added: “We won our last home game, against one of the top sides, Barton Town but the postponements have knocked us back and it feels like our season just hasn’t got started.

“Senior players Anthony Hilton and captain Tom Jackson have done a superb job and feel we are in a false position, while our manager is so keen, he is out nearly every night watching football.”

Liversedge face a trip to Staveley MW on Saturday (3pm) and are due to play their first home game in 80 days next Tuesday when Retford United are the visitors (7.45pm).
