Liversedge new Championship leaders

Caribbean conceded their game at Robertrtown Lane, with Liversedge collecting the maximum six points.

Hopton Mills slipped to a surprise defeat at the hands of East Ardsley and trail Liversedge by five points going into Saturday’s top of the table showdown.

Scott Mullins (38) and Louie Harley (31) made useful contributions for Ardsley but Hopton would have felt confident of registering a ninth win of the season as they restricted the visitors for 178, with Neil Browne claiming 5-66.

However, Hopton lost wickets at regular intervals in the face of impressive bowling from veteran David Battye, who claimed 5-18 from 10 overs.

Bradley Drake attempted to rescue the game with a top score of 43, batting at number eight, but Hopton were dismissed for 128 in the 35th over as Mullins backed up his efforts with the bat by claiming 3-49.

Wakefield St Michaels are up to third, three points behind Hopton, following a seven-wicket win over Oulton.

Crossbank Methodists went close to registering their second win of the Division One campaign before suffering an agonising one-wicket defeat.

Mel Wood rolled back the years to stroke 14 fours on his way to a top score of 74 having joined Crossbank from Ossett part way through the season.

Wood’s efforts helped Crossbank reach 171 all out in the 49th over.

Adwalton were reduced to 36-4 and 137-8 in reply as James Abbott claimed 4-33 and looked to have put Crossbank on course for victory.

James Paterson top scored with 51 but it took 29 from number nine batsman Simon Bagnell to take them to 170-9 before last man Ryan Swift hit the winning boundary off the eighth ball he faced.

Mirfield suffered a 10-wicket defeat to Division One leaders Great Preston.

Ian Newton (5-32) helped dismiss Mirfield for 109 before Danusha Ranesinghe (61no) and Matt King (40no) steered Great Preston to victory in the 35th over with an unbroken 111-run partnership.
