Liversedge had conceded 46 goals and scored just eight in a losing league streak which stretched back to the start of September but they earned a much needed confidence-boosting win.

Liversedge went ahead after eight minutes when Brandon Kane curled a free kick low round the Barton wall into the bottom corner.

Things improved further when promising young striker Vaughan Redford added a second and the Clayborners led 2-0 inside the opening 15 minutes.

Barton hit back through a 25th minute Ashley Lattimore penalty and despite further chances at both ends, it remained 2-1 at half-time.

The drama continued after the break as the Liversedge goalkeeper pulled off a terrific save to keep his side ahead only for Bradley Ricketts to grab a 68th minute equaliser.

The die hard Liversedge supporters among the 80 strong crowd must have feared the worst but their side re-grouped to regain control.

Sedge won a 74th minute corner which was swung deep into the penalty area and when Barton failed to clear, Kenny Tafireyi cut back inside and hit a low shot with the visiting goalkeeper spilled into his own net.

The home side attacked again and won a free-kick on the edge of the area which Kane again curled low round the Barton wall.

The goalkeeper again fumbled and Craig Tomlinson was on hand to rifle the ball into the roof of the net and spark jubiliation among his teammates.

There was time for Tom Darwood to pull a 90th minute goal back but Liversedge held on to end their long losing run and move four points clear of the relegation zone.
