Gibril Bojang celebrates scoring for Liversedge against Esh Winning.

Liversedge turned in an impressive display last Saturday as they eased into the FA Vase second qualifying round with a 3-0 win at Esh Winning.

Sedge showed no ill effects of their long trip to the North East and were 2-0 up inside half-an-hour following a brace for Gibril Bojang.

The striker put Liversedge ahead from the penalty spot after 22 minutes following a trip in the area.

Bojang then doubled Liversedge’s lead just before the half hour and it remained 2-0 at the break.

Liversedge continued to have the better of things after the break and wrapped up victory when substitute Billy Grogan came off the bench to slot home a third after 73 minutes.

Liversedge have been drawn at home to North West Counties side Colne in the second qualifying round on September 21.

Sedge were unable to back that display up with victory on Tuesday night as they slipped to a 5-1 derby defeat against local rivals Brighouse Town in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Liversedge did play well in patches and were in the game just after half-time only for Brighouse to pull away later on.

Luke Gibson put Brighouse head after 25 minutes and Tom Matthews doubled their advantage 10 minutes later.

Liversedge pulled a goal back after 55 minutes when Luke Riley set up Warrick Charlton to make it 2-1 and there was hope that Eric Gilchrist’s men would go on and take something from the game.

A deflected Danny Naidole strike took the wind out of Liversedge’s sails as Brighouse restored their two-goal advantage.

Leon Henry added a fourth goal soon after and substitute Joe Thornton completed the scoring for visitors Brighouse with virtually the last kick of the game.

Defeat leaves Liversedge 15th in the Premier Division with seven points from their first eight games.

Sedge welcome fellow mid-table side Barton Town Old Boys to Clayborn on Saturday (3pm) and then face a tasty midweek derby away to fifth placed Garforth Town on Tuesday (7.45pm).
