Jewitt and Wood clinch mixed pairs trophy win

Heather Jewitt and Jason Wood retained the Overthorpe Sports Club mixed pairs bowls trophy with a 21-18 victory over Pauline Ratcliffe and John Webster.

The early exchanges were nip and tuck with the scores level at 8-8 by the 11th end before great leading from Webster put them 18-10 in front.

Jewitt and Woodhouse launched their comeback with Jewitt leading well as they pulled back to 18-17.

The holders were lying three up with Woodhouse’s second bowl playing out Webster’s to give them all four with Ratcliffe’s final bowl to come.

Ratcliffe narrowly missed the line with her effort which meant a second victory in a month for the holders following their success in the mixed pairs at Thornhill.

Earlier Jewitt and Woodhouse defeated Gordon Ratcliffe and Karen Hill 21-15, David Jewitt and Georgina Holmes 21-12 and Leah Weatherill and Marcus Leach 21-12 in the semi final.

Ratcliffe and Webster overcame Emily Grason and T Lawrence 21-9, along with Suzanne Baines 21-9 and John Leach by the same scoreline before defeating Daz Ripley and Sally Turner 21-18 in an exciting semi final.
