Jenny Walsh stars in nationals

Spenborough AC’s Jenny Walsh ran an outstanding race to finish second at the National Cross Country Under-20s women’s race last Saturday.

Walsh, who is a student at Durham University, was beaten by last years European Cross Country under 20 silver medalist Emelia Gorecka from Aldershot on a snow covered course at Herrington Country Park near Sunderland on Saturday.

Walsh has excelled on the track and at cross country over and the Liversedge athlete will be looking for another memorable year of racing.

In the under 20 men’s race Joshua Woodcock-Shaw and Simon Bolland finished 55th and 109th.

Spenborough’s only team finish was 16th place in the Under-17 men’s race where Liam Steadman finished 66th, Paul Davis 100th, Bradley Standsill-Todd 161st and James Anthony 209th.

In the Under-17 women’s race Emma Wilkinson and Beth Ellis finished 51st and 55th.

Spen’s only senior man to take part in the north east event was Jeff Hornby, who came home in 303rd place in a race which attracted over 1,000 runners.
