James hat-trick sees Hopton into last eight

Nathan James led the way with a hat-trick, while Declan James-Thomas, Danny Ryan and Clive Stewart also scored, with Joe Robin netting Ossett’s consolation goal.

Hopton will travel to West Yorkshire League outfit Howden Clough in the quarter-final on February 20.

Wyke Wanderers booked their place in the last eight but needed extra time to see off Thornhill 4-2 after the sides were locked 2-2 following 90 minutes.

That tie was switched to Appleton Academy but Wyke will hope to return to their usual home ground of Whitcliffe Mount when they host Littletown in the quarter-final.

The other last eight ties see Hartshead at home to FC Gawthorpe and Crackenedge away to Woodkirk Valley.

Hunsworth slipped to a 7-1 defeat away to Steeton in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division last Saturday.

With much of the programme again falling victim to the weather, Steeton switched the clash to Greenhead College and it paid off as they led 4-0 at half-time and completed victory thanks to a brace apiece from Lee Reilly and Lee Thompson plus further goals from Andy Briggs, Graham Holmes and Dec Consoli.

Courtney Marsh grabbed Hunsworth’s consolation goal but they remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Littletown Reserves had George Porter (two) and Joe Jagger on target but it wasn’t enough to prevent an 8-3 defeat away to Division Two leaders Thornton United.

John Selby and Danny Cunningham bagged a brace apiece, while Jamie Bairstow, Danny Walker, Cameron Nelson and Delroy White were also on target as Thornton extended their lead at the top of the table to four points over Golcar United Reserves.

n The West Riding County Amateur League are inviting applications for the 2016/17 season.

n Old Bank WMC suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Nostell Miners Welfare in one of only a handful of Wakefield League games to survive.

Defeat leaves Old Bank second-bottom in Division One, level on four points with Pontefract Sports and Social and a point behind third-bottom New Pot Oil.

They travel to mid-table Headfield on Saturday and end January with a trip to Ossett Dynamoes as they look to climb the table.
