Idziorek leads Poland to test success

Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway’s 17-year-old sensation Pawel Idziorek represented Poland in a series of test matches against Great Britain last weekend.

Idziorek, who took up the sport only two years ago, proved to be a shrewd choice for the Polish team as he claimed 18 and 11 points to help his country to victories in both of their matches.

The teenager has also signed up for Sheffield to ride in elite races after a brilliant run of results in which he has won the northern individual junior and senior titles.

Idziorek is now seeking sponsorship ahead of a major international competition in Australia next November.

Heckmondwike’s next outing is on Sunday, August 4, when they travel to Stockport for the next Northern League match.

Training is held on Wednesday evenings (7.30pm) and all equipment and bikes are provided. Sessions are free and open to everyone.

The club is governed by the British Cycling Federation.

n Spenborough AC senior men’s team scooped first place in the Harrogate Town Centre 10k.

The club’s runners were led home by Martin Hall in 16th who was also first in the Vets 50 standings.

Gerard Skippins was 21st and Ian Ogden ran well to claim 32nd.

Spen AC are seeking new members. Those interested can attend training nights on Monday and Thursday (6.45pm) at the club house, Princess Mary playing fields, Bradford Road, Cleckheaton.

The Memorial Medals meeting, cancelled in March, will take place on September 1.

The meet was cancelled due to bad weather and age groups from under-11s to seniors will be taking part.
