Howard strikes Olympic gold

MIRFIELD’S Howard Tomlinson climbed to the top of the winners’ podium at the English Table Tennis Association’s Special Olympics in Bournemouth last month.

Howard, 35, won gold in the individual event, defeating favourite Paul Ricketts from Bournemouth convincingly in two sets – 11-4, 11-7.

It earned Howard his first gold medal at the event where he had previously won bronze.

Howard is dedicated to the sport he loves. He plays in local leagues and regularly attends Great Britain training sessions in Crewe.

His latest success caps a great couple of years for Howard.

He represented Great Britain at last year’s Special Olympics European Games in Warsaw, Poland, and was honoured to be chosen to carry the flag. Howard has also been an ambassador for Kirklees’ programmes for the disabled.
