Hopton Mills lead way after home victory

Hopton Mills moved five points clear at the top of the CYL Championship thanks to a 113-run victory over Northowram Fields.

Ashley Mackereth got the Hopton innings off to a flying start hitting 72 from 38 balls including seven fours and six sixes.

Neil Browne (40) shared an 83-run opening wicket stand with Mackereth, while Gary Senior (30) and Stephen Bland (39) helped boost the Mills total to 277 all out, with Zafar Khan (4-54) and Jonathan Lee (3-31) on song for Northowram.

Michael Carroll claimed 4-40 in reply as Fields were dismissed for 164, with Glenn Morrison (33) top scoring.

Four points separate the next four teams after Wakefield St Michael’s thrashed previous leaders Azaad by 127 runs, East Ardsley gained an 87-run success over Caribbean, while Liversedge defeated Oulton by six wickets.

Mirfield stunned Division One leaders East Leeds with a 54-run victory.

Mirfield recovered from 88-7 to post 202-9 thanks to the efforts of Scott Young (35) and Joseph Dransfield (34no).

Allan Olbison (5-54) was the pick of the East Leeds bowling but although Daniel Lawrence hit 44 in reply, they were dismissed for 148 as Daniel Gough (4-32) and Islam Hussain (3-11) shone.

Mirfield’s win allowed Great Preston to take over at the top thanks to a six-wicket win over Adwalton.

Crossbank Methodists were dismissed for 119 by Rodley but fought back in style with Reuban Shuttleworth (3-32) and Alan Firth (4-16) threatening an unlikely win until the home team stumbled home by two wickets.
