Hartshead smash 21 goals in cup victory

Hartshead cruised into the Heavy Woollen District FA Wheatley Cup quarter-finals with a 21-0 demolition of West End Park last Saturday.

The West Yorkshire League outfit had too much for the Spen Valley minnows as they joined FC Gawthorpe, Littletown and Woodkirk Valley in the last eight.

Wakefield League outfit Crackenedge are also through after a comfortable 9-0 victory over Hightown Jets, while Howden Clough received a walkover against Marsh.

The remaining second round ties between Wyke Wanderers v Thornhill and Lower Hopton v AFC Ossett have been re-arranged for January 16.

Savile Youth moved three points clear at the top of the Spen Valley League Premier Division thanks to a 4-0 victory over Idle last Saturday.

Shahid Patel bagged a hat-trick and Imran Patel was also on target in Youth’s win.

Girlington edged out Whitburn Athletic 5-4 thanks to a brace from Adeeb Jawad plus goals by Soaib Javed, Mohammed Qasim and Saad Abbas.

Sohail Ahmed, Callum Pollard and Jordan Curtis (two) replied for Whitburn.

Faisal Khan scored four goals but it wasn’t enough to prevent Drummond slipping to a 9-4 defeat at home to Mount Pleasant in the Spen Valley Memorial Trophy.

Saif Akbar hit five goals for Mount, who also had Mohammed Patel, Mohammed Sadiq, Jaabir Patel and Adam Zaman on target.

Awaab Ahmed and Ziyad Ravat scored two goals each as Inter Batley defeated Howden Clough (Dom Carr brace) 4-2.

Hunsworth slipped to a 14th defeat in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division last Saturday.

They went down 8-0 at Lepton Highlanders, who extended their advantage at the top to four points, after Jonathan Bullivant (hat-trick), Chris Gillespie (two), Gary Bradley, Mark Godley and Joshua Cook were all on target.

Overthorpe Sports suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to DRAM Community in Division One despite Kristian Angus scoring their consolation goal.
