Hanging Heaton’s quest for four trophies

Heaton’s first team are already through to the Heavy Woollen Cup semi-final, where they host Central Yorkshire Premier Division leaders Townville on Sunday July 7.

They also meet Bradford and Bingley in the Priestley Cup semis on July 14 after Bankfoot were thrown out of the competition on Tuesday for fielding an ineligible player in the quarter-final success over the Wagon Lane side.

On Tuesday, Heaton progressed to the Twenty20 Cup semi-finals with a thrilling win over Woodlands in a game which saw almost 400 runs scored in 40 overs.

Gary Fellows hit a brilliant 91 from 50 balls, while James Stansfield supported with 52 as Heaton posted 206-7.

Woodlands were going well in reply as Simon Mason smashed eight sixes, several of which cleared the houses at the Fox & Hounds end of the ground, on his way to 70.

The introduction of spin proved key as Umar Rehman picked up 4-14 from his four overs, including the vital wicket of Mason, caught and bowled.

Jamie Baulk dismissed the dangerous Sarfraz Ahmed without scoring as Woodlands closed on 185-8.

Heaton travel to the winners of Sunday’s T20 quarter-final between Pudsey St Lawrence and Morley in the last four.

Heaton’s second team reached the Priestley Shield semi-finals, defeating Lightcliffe by 14 runs last Sunday.

Francis Nelson (47), Rehman (45) and captain Mark Inwood (30) helped Heaton post 207-7 in a game reduced to 35 overs per side.

Rhys Jowett (37) led the Lightcliffe reply, while Mick Horner picked up 3-32.

As Lightcliffe threatened the Heaton total, Inwood took two excellent late catches and the home side were dismissed for 193 in 34.3 overs.

Heaton now travel to Baildon Seconds in the last four on July 14.
