Gomersal power into last eight to set up tasty Woodlands clash

Gomersal booked a Priestley Cup quarter-final date against Woodlands after powering into the last eight with a 108-run victory over Batley last Sunday.

Richard Wear led the way with a brilliant innings of 111, which contained two sixes and 11 fours.

Opener Liam Thomas (60) had got the innings off to a good start before Wear and Jack Seddon (71) took over and added 107 for the sixth wicket as Gomersal closed on 305-8, with Mohammad Shahnawaz taking 4-47.

Naveed Zamurad (73) top scored in reply but Batley were bowled out for 197.

Left-armer James Russell was pick of the bowlers with 4-51 while Wear capped an excellent day by taking 3-31.

Woodlands booked their July 1 quarter-final date at Oxford Road as they defeated neighbours Cleckheaton by 64 runs.

Umar Salim (32) made the highest score in a low scoring match as Woodlands were bowled out for 156, with Jonathan Whiteoak returning figures of 3-18 for Cleckheaton.

Left-arm opening bowler Muhammad Bilal took 5-18 and spinner Chris Brice chipped in with 3-20 as Cleckheaton were dismissed for 92 in reply.

Cup holders New Farnley will entertain league champions Hanging Heaton in a mouthwatering quarter-final.

Heaton secured their quarter-final place after producing a brilliant run chase to seal a six-wicket-win over Methley.

Methley must have fancied their chances of following up their league win over Heaton eight days earlier as they posted a challenging total of 275-5.

Jordan Laban (88no) and Adal Islam (78) shared a second-wicket stand of 111, before Dan Shuffe chipped in with 33. David Stiff was the best Hanging Heaton bowler with 3-51.

An unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 138 between Ben Kohler Cadmore (78no) and Ishmail Dawood (73no) powered Heaton to with 5.2 overs to spare.

Kohler-Cadmore and Dawood built on the earlier work of Joe Fraser (48) as they took the game by the scruff of the neck.

East Bierley suffered a 220-run defeat at Lightcliffe.

Opener Alex Stead produced the day’s highest individual score of 122, which included two sixes and 15 fours and was backed up by the efforts of Jonathan Wilson and Suleman Khan who both made 55.

Wilson shared in a second-wicket partnership of 143 with Stead as the East Bierley bowlers were made to suffer.

East Bierley crumbled to 94 all out as spinners Josh Wheatley (4-18) and Chris Greenwood (4-32) got to work.

Scholes suffered a nine-wicket defeat to Farsley as spinners James Logan (3-21) and Adam Ahmed (3-23) helped bowl them out for 106.

Farsley romped to their target with James Wainman making 52 not out and Dan Hodgson (40).

Holders New Farnley defeated Pudsey St Lawrence on a comparison of scores after their game was hit by rain with Saints in real trouble at 63-8 after 25 overs.

Farnley captain Lee Goddard earlier top scored with 104 and was joined in a third-wicket stand of 103 by Andrew Hodd (57) as they made 226.

Wrenthorpe made 225-9 before bowling out Undercliffe for 101 to set up a last eight tie with Townville.
