Aces high for Dewsbury golf quartet

DEWSBURY District Golf Club members have been busy recording holes in one in the last month.

Kevin Howley’s ace came on the ninth hole in the Seniors Summer Competition. It was his second hole in one at the ninth in six months. He used his seven iron on the 132-yard hole. His day was to get even better as he and his team also picked up a prize in the competition.

On Tuesday, July 26, 13-year-old Connor Smith earned a hole in one, also on the 132-yard ninth at Dewsbury District, using just a pitching wedge and this having only joined the club in March this year. It also came a day after a coaching class with club professional Nigel Hirst.

There was another ace two days later when Mark Haigh played in the Mid week Medal. This too came on the ninth, using a nine iron.

It was his first hole-in-one after many years of trying. He managed to maintain his composure and complete his round in a gross 73 off 10 handicap.

On Yorkshire Day, David Batty, a member at Dewsbury District Golf Club for almost 40 years, secured his first hole-in-one on the 167 yard 12th, at Hickelton Golf Club in a Seniors Open Day.

David has been playing golf for 60 years and started to think he may never achieve the feat, but he never gave up trying.
