Former Super League champion Lee Gilmour has returned to Shaw Cross Sharks.
Gilmour’s career included three Super League titles, five Challenge Cups and two World Club Challenges, and he is a member of Shaw Cross’ Hall of Fame having begun his career with the club.
Gilmour represented St Helens, Wigan Warriors, Huddersfield Giants, Bradford Bulls, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in a 17-year professional career.
Gilmour is assistant coach at Wakefield and although he made his Sharks’ debut against Elland last week, he misses Saturday’s game with Milford due to the Wildcats’ Challenge Cup semi-final.
Gilmour said: “I said I’d always play a few games for Cross once I had retired.
“My good friend Andy Burland said he was returning to play so I thought the timing was right. There’s also a few lads I coached that I wanted to have a run out with.
“This is a bit of fun for me, to play alongside some friends, which is why I started playing, and to play my final games for the club where it started for me.”
The Sharks have also launched a Masters (over-35s) team, alongside Under-14s and Under-1616s Girls teams.
The club host 14 teams from Under-8s to Under-17s and three open age sides. They are looking for new players at all levels. For more, visit www.shawxsharks.com.
