Walton brace helps Liversedge secure victory over Garforth Town

Striker Joe Walton added another two goals to his impressive tally as Liversedge earned a 3-1 victory at Garforth Town in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division on Thursday night.

Walton has now netted 26 times in all competitions, 23 of which have come in the league.

Daniel Farrar put Liversedge ahead with a sixth minute goal and it remained 1-0 at half-time.

Walton doubled the lead with a 48th minute goal and although Mark Simpson pulled one back for Garforth two minutes later, Walton’s second 11 minutes from time secured Liversedge’s 12th win of the season.

The NCE League season has been extended by five days and will now finish on Thursday May 3.

Despite the extension, Jonathan Rimmington’s men must play their remaining 12 league games in just 27 days, while the also have a NCE Cup quarter-final to arrange.

Liversedge are due to entertain Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Saturday and then host Hall Road Rangers on Tuesday but the Clayborn pitch is already saturated and Wednesday night’s scheduled Wheatley Cup semi-final between West Yorkshire League Premier Division side Hartshead and Morley Town was called off.

Liversedge are also due to travel to Handsworth Parramore next Thursday (April 12), weather permitting.

Liversedge will now travel to Bottesford Town on Tuesday May 1 and end their season with a home derby against Thackley two days later.
