Rayneron roadto pro’contract

TALENTED footballer Mykie Rayner is a step closer to winning a professional contract with League One Swindon Town or Leyton Orient.

More than 5,000 players from all over the country entered the Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition, and Rayner is now through to the quarter-final stages.

The centre-back, 19, from Cleckheaton, is one of 88 players remaining after impressing scouts at regional trials.

He will now play in an 11-a-side match at Hyde FC on Sunday, November 11.

“I couldn’t believe it when I found out I’d made it through to the next round,” said Rayner, who has played in the academies of Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers.

“I’ve had bad luck with injuries but this could be my chance to get back into the game.

“I can’t wait to show my skills in the next round. To win a professional contract would be a dream come true.”
