McDaid stars with magnificent seven

Shaun McDaid struck a magnificent seven goals as AFC Chickenley thrashed the Heavy Woollen Sunday League Championship’s bottom side Scholes Athletic 10-3.

Michael Chadwick’s hat-trick completed Chickenley’s tally, with Craig Wood netting all three for Scholes.

Victory leaves Chickenley fifth in the table, five points off leaders Woodman Batley Carr, while Scholes are seven points adrift of safety.

Hartshead moved third after Gyles Wallbank’s double plus a Steve Young strike saw them win 3-1 at Birstall St Patricks (Adam Swinden) and they are three points behind Woodman with a game in hand.

All other Championship fixtures were postponed, which leaves Birkenshaw second, above Hartshead on goal difference but with three games in hand on the leaders..

Division One leaders FC Pack Horse suffered a shock 5-1 defeat at home to Dewsbury Rangers.

Jordan Pugh led the way with a hat-trick, with Danny Laidlaw and Jamie Beever also scoring for Rangers. Jason Jeffrey hit Pack Horse’s consolation.

Birkenshaw Reserves missed the chance to go level at the top as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Taylor (Ebrahim Seedat). Jordan Tailford netted for Birkenshaw, who stay two points behind the leaders.

Gomersal climbed to fifth as Jordan Midwood (hat-trick), Kieran Armitage and Matthew Blackburn scored in a 5-1 win over third place FC Woodman.

Premier Division leaders St John Fisher’s game with Navigation fell victim to the weather, giving Thornhill Lees the chance to leapfrog the Mirfield side and move up to third place.

Lees goals came from Tristran Cost, Kristian Angus and Connor Spencer in a 3-0 win at Tingley WMC.

Towngate climbed up to sixth place, five points above the bottom two sides, with a 4-0 win at Thirsty Man which came thanks to goals from John Paul Flynn (brace), Dave Cyrus and Ashley Flynn.
