Lower Hopton and Littletown maintain West Riding County Amateur League title challenge

Lower Hopton and Littletown both secured victories to maintain their West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division title challenges last week.

Golcar United continue to lead the way as they thrashed Steeton Reserves 9-0.

Hopton are second, three points behind having also played a game more, but they kept in touch with a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Bradford Olympic.

A Ryan Metcalfe goal helped Olympic go into the break level at 1-1 but strikes from Liam Royal and James Heeley ensured Hopton earned their seventh win of the season.

Littletown are two points behind Hopton with two games in hand and trail Golcar by five points having played a game fewer after they overcame PFC 3-0.

New signing Tristan Innes scored on his Littletown debut, with Callum Wheatley and Joe Jagger also bagging a goal apiece.

With Littletown and Lower Hopton both in Wheatley Cup action this Saturday, Golcar have the chance to extend their lead at the top when they visit Toller in the league.

Last week’s game between Toller and Ovenden West Riding was abandoned after 85 minutes following a red card.

Toller were leading 8-2 and cruising to a home win before a foul by an Ovenden player saw him dismissed.

Players and officials from both sides reacted to the incident and the referee abandoned the game.
