Liversedge suffer County Cup exit

Liversedge bowed out of the West Riding County Cup on Tuesday night when they suffered a 3-0 defeat away to in-form Yorkshire Amateurs.

Liversedge’s hopes of pulling off a surprise result were hampered when their goalkeeper was sent off after conceding a 35th minute penalty, which Brice Tiani converted.

Ammers hold a six point lead at the top of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division and were keen on maintaining their momentum in the County Cup.

The home side doubled their lead just before half-time with a goal from under-21s striker Ben Laycock.

Ammers went on to complete a quickfire hat-trick of wins over Sedge — having won two league encounters between the sides in the space of two weeks — when Leon Henry scored a rare goal after 63 minutes.

Liversedge now turn their focus back to the NCE League Premier Division and a tough trip to Bridlington Town on Saturday.

Sedge are fourth-bottom, just a point above local rivals Thackley, and have not won in the league since a 3-2 success at Knaresborough Town way back on August 18.

Liversedge are also in action next Wednesday (November 21) when they face a rearranged trip to Albion Sports, kick off 7.45pm.
