Liversedge denied victory by Albion's injury time goal

Rhys Davies slotted home a second half penalty to draw Liversedge level during their Northern Counties East League Premier Division game against Albion Sports

Liversedge conceded an injury time goal as they had to settle for a point from their trip to Albion Sports last Saturday.

Although Albion dominated for long spells, it appeared Liversedge were on course for a first win in five Northern Counties East League Premier Division matches as they led 2-1.

However, Albion struck with a last gasp equaliser to rescue a point which sees them hold on to third place in the table, while Liversedge have slipped to seventh.

The game was switched to Albion’s Throstle Nest base as a precaution following heavy rain in the week and more adverse weather forecast.

Albion squandered a host of chances and Liversedge were grateful to only trail 1-0 at half-time before turning the tables after the break and appeared on course to snatch all three points.

By Liversedge’s own admission they were far from at their best but all Albion had to show for their dominance was Devonte Morton’s 19th minute goal as he bundled home after visiting goalkeeper Christian Thewliss made the initial save.

Five minutes into the second half, Liversedge were handed a chance to hit back when goalkeeper Mark Bower’s clumsy challenge upended Rhys Davies.

Bower was shown a yellow card before Davies dusted himself down and calmly slotted home from the spot to level matters.

The visitors had their best spell of the match and looked to have snatched all three points when Steve Wales slotted home from close range with just eight minutes remaining.

Liversedge led as the game moved into stoppage time but Karl Hall volleyed past Thewlis to rescue a share of the spoils and deny Jonathan Rimmington’s men all three points.
