Littletown and Hartshead meet in Wheatley Cup final

Littletown will face Hartshead in the Heavy Woollen District FA Wheatley Cup Final at Ossett Town on a date to be finalised.

Littletown edged out Wyke Wanderers 1-0 in last Thursday’s semi-final at Ossett Albion, with Matthew Bugg scoring the only goal of the game.

Hartshead defeated Morley Town in a delayed semi at Liversedge on Tuesday night.

Danny Holland gave Yorkshire Amateur League side Morley Town a surprise lead but Hartshead equalised and went on to take a 4-1 lead at half-time.

Hartshead added a fifth goal after the break to book their cup final date with Littletown.

Andrew Wood and Liam Fox bagged a brace apiece, while Ben Smith was also on target for Hartshead.

Littletown followed up Thursday’s semi-final win with a 4-0 victory over Golcar United in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division last Saturday.

Joe Jagger bagged a brace, while George Porter and Ryan Higgins also netted as Littletown moved up to fifth place in the table.

Hunsworth must defeat newly crowned first division champions Ovenden West Riding in their final match on Saturday and hope other teams can do them a favour if they are to finish outside the bottom two.

Hunsworth go into their final game two points behind TVR United and Tingley Athletic following last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Salts Reserves.

Karl Wilcox netted for Hunsworth but it wasn’t enough to prevent an 11th defeat of the season as Andy Sadawkj bagged a hat-trick for second placed Salts Reserves.

Overthorpe Sports are safe in mid-table despite slipping to an 8-2 defeat at Ovenden, who clinched the title.

Goals from Kristian Angus and Elliot Brooke were not enough for Overthorpe as Ovenden were crowned champions thanks to four goals from John Booth, a brace by Damian Randall and further strikes by Glyn Beale and Kevin Megson.

Hartshead’s West Yorkshire League Premier Division game against Leeds City was postponed last Saturday and they have nine games remaining to preserve their top flight status.

Hartshead hold a five point advantage over second-bottom Sherburn White Rose with two games in hand.

They entertain league leaders Beeston St Anthony’s on Saturday and are away to Hunslet Club next Wednesday.

Wyke Wanderers bounced back from their semi-final defeat with a 2-1 win over Rawdon Old Boys in West Yorkshire League Division One last Saturday.

Wyke are fifth in the table, still with an outside chance of promotion, after goals from Nick Conway and Karl Fawcett secured their 14th win of the season.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves suffered a 2-0 defeat at Aberford Albion Reserves in Alliance Division Two last Saturday and then slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Kirk Deighton Reserves on Monday.

Howden Clough Reserves lost 5-3 sat Wetherby Athletic on Saturday and 3-1 away to Huddersfield YMCA on Monday.
