Redfearn pleased to sign off with win

After being in charge while Leeds lost their two previous games to injury-time goals it was an injury-time winner from Luciano Becchio that gave Redfearn his only Elland Road victory with the Whites coming from two down to beat Doncaster Rovers 3-2.

It left Redfearn with a record of six points from four games in charge and the respect he has earned with the players was shown when Becchio made a point of running to him to celebrate the winner.

He was quick to acknowledge the part in the victory played by new manager Neil Warnock, who contributed a half-time pep talk, but was pleased to have played his own part in keeping things going at the club at a tricky time following the departure of Simon Grayson.

He said: “We were poor first half and couldn’t get it going.

“But the presence of having Neil Warnock there to pass down one or two things made a big difference.

“Neil had a big impact. He came in at half-time and made a few points. It was sensible advice in the situation we were in.

“He said they should be a bit more positive, with more energy, and play higher up the pitch. There was no ranting and raving.

“Our second-half performance was more like it. We got about them and the crowd responded.

“The players have been first class in training. We haven’t always had the results or performances we wanted, but we’ve finished on a high, which is good.

“The bottom line is it’s about players not managers and coaches. This result will give them a massive boost and hopefully give Neil the platform to go on and take the club on.

“There’s obviously things that are not right, but I’m sure Neil Warnock will turn it round and get it going in the right direction.”

Redfearn praised the decision of chairman Ken Bates to appoint Warnock.

He added: “The appointment of Neil Warnock is fantastic for the club.

“He has a track record of getting teams out of this division and these are exciting times.”
