Leeds United boss: ‘We’re running out of games’

Warnock was left to rue his team’s bad luck with two efforts hitting the woodwork and further opportunities squandered as they let another three points slip against the Terriers. Another late goal proved costly and the defeat had felt “almost fatal” according to the manager.

Warnock said: “I’m obviously disappointed, but I can’t fault the players, they put everything in.

“We’ve had so many opportunities now over the last six to eight weeks to be 10 or 12 points better off. The problem is we’re always chasing the points to get back in there.

“I still think we are capable of winning six on the trot but we’re running out of games.

“It almost felt like a fatal defeat because of the points situation.

“I still don’t know how Rudy Austin and Luke Varney didn’t score and if they go in it’s a different game.

“It’s such a fine line between success and failure. We were playing well at that time and it was a hammer blow.

“It was a game I thought we could have won, but to lose Morison and McCormack like we did you are going to struggle for goals.

“I’d love to come in and blame the players, but they’re a great bunch, they couldn’t give me more.”
