The 30-year-old forward has arrived at Elland Road for an undisclosed fee from Italian club Ternana and is a candidate to go straight into the Leeds side with Souleymane Doukara ruled out for a month at least through an ankle injury suffered when he was caught by Middlesbrough defender George Friend.

Antenucci, who has become the 11th signing of the summer, tweeted his delight at coming to Leeds.

He said: “Proud to be part of this club. Hope to give you a lot of satisfaction.”

Antenucci has spent his entire career in his native Italy, playing for Torino and Catania among a list of nine clubs.

United are now in the hunt for a 12th signing with negotiations ongoing with Brazilian attacking midfielder Adryan. But they will not be signing Kieran Agard from Rotherham United after he opted to go to Bristol City.
