Swedish triallist Markus Holgersson netted the fourth goal after Joe Lolley, Adam Clayton (penalty) and James Vaughan had been on target in a solid performance.

Town’s line-up for the match against their Second Division opposition was in a 3-5-2 formation and included new signing Joe Murphy in goal.

Lolley played centrally and scored from a Paul Dixon cross after 11 minutes, firing home after a neat turn.

Nahki Wells was brought down in the 26th minute for the penalty which Clayton dispatched, and Vaughan’s goal came with a bicycle kick from a Dixon throw.

Holgersson turned the ball home in a crowded penalty box with an hour gone, while Portimonense scored their consolation after 79 minutes.

Robins says Town will now step up their training work as they look towards the Championship opener against Bournemouth on Saturday, August 9.
