The 29-year-old central defender, who was with Wigan Athletic after previously playing for Helsingborg, Angelholms and Hoganas BK, rounded-off his trial outing by netting the fourth goal in a 4-1 win after Joe Lolley, Adam Clayton (penalty) and James Vaughan had been on target in a solid pre-season performance.

Having impressed in Town’s week-long training camp in Portugal, boss Mark Robins said: “This was a good opportunity to look at Markus and he’s done nothing wrong.”

Meanwhile, Huddersfield Town continue to bolster their squad ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season.

It’s been a very busy summer for the Terriers who have brought in a number of fresh faces to help them challenge on all fronts in the new campaign.

Their first summer signing came in the form of Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Joe Murphy, 32, who was a free agent after his contract with League One side Coventry City expired at the end of last season.

He made 137 league appearances for the Sky Blues across three seasons and arrives at the club with more than 500 games in all competitions under his belt.

Lee Peltier was the next one through the door and returned to Huddersfield after signing a three-year deal.

The defender left Leeds by mutual consent before being announced as Simon Grayson’s latest recruit for the Terriers.

Peltier spent two years with Huddersfield between 2009 and 2011 before moving to Leicester.

He also skippered the Elland Road side for a brief period but fell out of favour and ended last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The good news continued as Wales international defender Joel Lynch signed a two-year contract extension with Huddersfield Town.

The 26-year-old is now contracted to the Terriers until the summer of 2017. The Sussex-born centre-half has made 53 appearances for Town since being signed from Nottingham Forest in 2012, scoring four goals.
