Hernandez has become the seventh addition of the summer and if he impresses he could join the Whites permanently during the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old Spanish international is known as a winger, but is believed to be earmarked for a number 10 role in Garry Monk’s new look Leeds side.

The player is well known to Monk after playing alongside him and working under him when Monk was manager at Swansea.

He cost Swansea a then clubseventh signing-record fee in the summer of 2012 when joining them to play in the Premier League and has more than 130 La Liga appearances to his name plus four full international caps.

He has had two spells with Valencia, as well as playing for fellow Spanish outfit Getafe and his two years with Al-Arabi also included a return to his homeland, spending the last campaign in the top-flight with Rayo Vallecano.

He is delighted to be joining the Monk revolution at Leeds.

He told the club website: “It feels very good to be here. After knowing about the possibility of this move for a few days, I am very happy to get started.

“Coming to a big club in England is an unbelievable feeling for me – I’m just impatient to play the first game now!

“Garry and Pep know me because I played at Swansea for two years. In my first year, Garry was my team-mate and Pep worked in the club. In the second year, they were the coaches and they know me very well.

“When Pep called me about coming here, I said ‘yes’ straightaway because I know that Leeds are a big team in England with good fans.

“I knew I wanted to come here and I can’t wait for the first game with the team and the first game at Elland Road.
