Fox and Hounds see Wakefield League promotion hopes dented by away defeat

Fox and Hounds missed the chance to close the gap on second placed Durkar when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat away to Ossett Dynamoes in Division One.

Durkar suffered a 3-0 defeat at Snydale Athletic but Fox and Hounds were unable to take advantage as Samuel Haigh’s first half goal was enough to see Ossett take the three points.

Fox and Hounds five points behind Durkar with a game in hand and nine adrift of leaders FC Prince with two games in hand.

Durkar host FC Prince on Saturday, while Fox and Hounds are due to host fourth placed Ryhill.

AFC Heckmondwike also failed to capitalise on their title rivals slipping up in Division Two.

Leaders Waterloo suffered a 6-2 defeat away to West End Terriers but although Courtney March scored for AFC Heckmondwike, they were beaten for only the third time this season as they went down 2-1 away to FC Thornes.

Heckmondwike remain four points behind Waterloo but have four games in hand ahead of Saturday’s trip to mid-table Nostell Miners Welfare.

Ashley Edmundon’s first half goal helped Thornhill United go into the break level at 1-1 away to AFC Sheaf.

However, the home side took control in the second half and scored a further three goals without reply to run out 4-1 winners and moved level on 36 points with their opponents.

Rhys Bruce, Khonner Hoyle, David Mitchell and Joel Pickersgill scored for AFC Sheaf.

Dewsbury Rangers slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home to New Carlton, who had second half goals from Jason Blackburn and Jamie Fox to thank for their victory.

Howden Clough earned a 1-1 draw against Crofton Sports but it wasn’t enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

Overthorpe Sports remain third-bottom, six points above Clough and two ahead of Crofton, after a 2-2 draw with Middleton Old Boys.
