Fans pedal for pounds

Huddersfield Town will embark upon the biggest fundraising event in the Club’s history next week as the ‘Pink Link Pedal for Pounds 3’, a 250 mile bike ride from Yeovil to Huddersfield, gets underway.

For the third season running, Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle will be getting back on his bike in aid of the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign; an innovative partnership between Huddersfield Town and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance to raise money for the charity and the Club’s youth Academy, now in its third season.

This season an unprecedented 280 Huddersfield Town fans will pedal from Yeovil Town’s Huish Park on Wednesday 2 May 2012 to Huddersfield Town, arriving in time for the npower League 1 game between the two sides in West Yorkshire on Saturday 5 May.

The riders include Chairman Hoyle, Commercial Director Sean Jarvis, Club Ambassador and Huddersfield Town legend Andy Booth, whilst other incredible stories have emerged from the fans; Ludo Schiebe is joining the ride from his home in Alkmaar, North Holland, whereas six women are riding on three tandems all the way.

The bike ride follows on from the 2010/11 season, when 168 fans took on the epic ‘Pink Link Pedal for Pounds 2’ bike challenge from Huddersfield to Brighton and Hove Albion FC for the last away game of the season - which generated over £180,000.

Huddersfield Town recently announced it is continuing its partnership with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance until it has raised £1 million for the charity, with the current total ahead of the bike ride standing at £420,000.

Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle commented:

“Having cycled to Brighton and Southend for the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign in the last two seasons, I am under no illusions as to the challenge ahead of us but I think it is amazing that almost 300 fans have signed up to join me and raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, as well as the Club’s Academy.

“There is a tremendous good nature and togetherness about the cyclists that will stand us in good stead as we aim to cycle from ‘Huish to Home’!

“I believe this could be one of the biggest single fundraising events in the history of football, as we are expecting upwards of £250,000 to come from sponsorship for these incredibly worthwhile causes. The two helicopters the Yorkshire Air Ambulance run cost £7,200 a day to keep in the air and this money could genuinely help them to save lives.”
