DEWSBURY-born Leeds United youngster Chris Dawson has been called-up to the Wales Under-21 squad.

The 18-year-old former Dewsbury Rangers midfielder is one of seven uncapped players picked by manager Geraint Williams for his side’s friendly against Iceland on Wednesday, February 6.

Dawson, who penned his first professional contract with Leeds earlier this season, has been in impressive form for United’s U18s team this season and scored a hat-trick in the 6-1 FA Youth Cup victory over Burton Albion this month.

That treble helped the Whites book a fifth round dat with either Liverpool or Histon and it came in Dawson’s first-ever performance at Elland Road.

“That was a good night,” Dawson told the official Leeds website.

“I’d never played at Elland Road before, but it was a good experience and we were all really pleased with how it went.

“We’re nine games unbeaten now in the under-18s so we feel that we can beat anybody at the moment.

“It looks like it could be Liverpool in the next round of the FA Youth Cup and we’re looking forward to it. We’re doing well in the league and we want to do well in the cup.”

Dawson’s performances have also caught the eye of Neil Warnock, who included Dawson in the first team squad as a substitute for the Championship clash with Watford in November.
